We are pleased to announce the appointment of Harrie Vredenburg to our Board of Directors!
Harrie Vredenburg is a scholar of innovation, sustainability and economics in the global energy industry and holds the position of Faculty Professor of Strategy and Sustainability at the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business. He also holds appointments as Research Fellow at the University’s School of Public Policy and as International Research Fellow at Oxford University’s Said Business School in the UK. He previously taught at McGill University in Montreal.
Dr Vredenburg was founding Academic Director of both his university’s MSc in Sustainable Energy Development (10 yrs) and Global Energy Executive MBA (8 yrs). A popular teacher, he lectures in MBA, MSc, MPP, PhD and executive programs and has several times won the MBA Society Top MBA Teacher Award.
He has authored/coauthored more than 60 papers in Energy Policy, Energies, Technovation, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, MIT Sloan Management Review, Harvard Business Review, International Journal of Economics & Business Research, etc. He has coauthored government reports on innovation and on nuclear energy. According to Google Scholar, his research publications have been cited in the academic literature more than 10,000 times. In 2023 he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.
Dr Vredenburg was founding board chairman of energy storage startup TERIC Power for 7 years until it was acquired by Idea Well Capital Partners’ Climate Tech Private Equity Fund in 2022. He has been a board member of publicly-traded and private international energy companies for 15 years. There he has championed emissions reduction and social and governance initiatives.
With filmmaker Sylvester Ndumbi he produced the documentary Without Leaving Anyone Behind: Humanity at an Energy Crossroads which premiered at a gala event in the Caribbean in September 2023 and was screened at the World Petroleum Congress in Calgary the same month and was selected by the United Nations and screened as an official Side Event at the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai in December 2023. It has been screened at film festivals and cinemas in North America and Europe throughout 2023-24.
Harrie brings a wealth of diverse experience from his past as an Academic Director, Author, Board Chairman, Board Member and now actively a narrator/writer/producer of films; we are excited to have him join us in shaping the future of Energi Simulation.
Harrie’s guidance and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to sponsor research that will develop technologies and skills directly applicable to advancing global energy security and industrial progress that will reduce the impacts on the environment. We look forward to his insights and contributions to our mission in creating a sustainable energy future through simulation research.
