We would like to extend a warm congratulations to our Board of Director, Harrie Vredenburg, for his appointment to be an expert – along with five other members – on the new panel that will explore the potential of nuclear power in Alberta! The newly formed panel of experts will engage with people across the province about nuclear power that will help create a strategy for developing the technology in the province.
Harrie shared with us that he was “honoured to have been invited by Premier Danielle Smith’s government to be appointed to the new Alberta Nuclear Energy Engagement and Advisory Panel. I accepted the appointment because nuclear energy, along with renewables, battery energy storage, and carbon capture & storage for hard-to-abate industrial sectors, can play an important part in a portfolio of technologies in a decarbonized economy. I coauthored the 2009 Alberta Nuclear Power Expert Panel Report commissioned by then Premier Ed Stelmach and continue work in the energy transition space. There are many questions to be answered, however, before nuclear energy can become a reality in Alberta.”
